Paper on poverty and education (12/14/2010)

In this European Year of poverty, the Vlor examined the link between poverty and higher education. Not enough people in poverty find their way to higher education. A recent study by the HIVA (Higher Institute for Labor) indicates however that a degree in higher education clearly leads to higher incomes and lower unemployment risk. Higher education is a good stepping stone to step out of poverty. In a mission statement, the Vlor advances some suggestions to increase and improve the participation of people in poverty.

The Vlor also states that little is known about poverty in higher education; this vision statement wants to draw the attention to this issue.
